Happy halloween!
✨
Throwback to last year when the Sanderson sisters turned up at Feel Good Crystals! I think Winifred may be making an appearance again tonight when she takes the kids out trick or treating 😵💫🤪
✨
As much as it is a fun spooky themed day/night there’s actually a lot more meaning for some when it comes to halloween.
✨
Samhain, for example, is a pagan festival on 31st October to mark the end of the Celtic year. Celebrating the harvest of the summer, reflecting on the past year and getting ready to go into the slower pace of winter.
✨
As Samhain is the end of the Celtic year on 31st and the new year on the 1st, the evening of 31st is seen as a liminal time - meaning its not quite the old year but not quite the new year - it’s the in between. It is often said that the veil is thin in this time (the veil between this world and others) meaning communication between the worlds is said to be easier.
✨
Moving forward a few days to 1/2nd November, the day of the dead - a celebration in Mexico honouring those who have passed and celebrating life & death, making peace with the circle of life.
✨
Overall it is a time to reflect on our past year but also to celebrate and pay respect to those who are no longer with us. A time to sit quietly and think of them, look at pictures, remember happy times, or visit their resting place.
✨
As much as we can have fun with it (crystal pumpkin carvings anyone!) I like the aspect of reflection, honouring ancestors and opening up to possible communication!
✨
Do you celebrate at this time of year?
